Parenting Challenges: The time MBS just didn't want to say sorry

Recently, MBS has gotten herself a habit of throwing things she doesn't like or she thinks to be ugly. Take one particular book for instance. She didn't like it; thus, she threw it on the floor.
MH saw this and scolded her.

MH: Pick up the book. We told you before that you should not throw things. Please pick it up.
MBS: No.

This took around 3 minutes or so. I went to MBS and asked her to please pick up the book, give the book to her dad, and say sorry.

After much prodding, she followed step #1. She picked up the book. That was it.
I asked her to please give the book to her dad and say sorry.
She threw the book to her dad. Threw.the.book.My temper flared up.

There was crying and shouting involved now.

I told her to give the book to her dad with both hands. MBS did not like the idea.

Me: Give the book to Daddy, using both hands.
MBS gets the book and reluctantly gives it to MH with one hand.
Me: Both hands.
MBS looks at me and nods her head, still extending one hand.
Me: BOTH. HANDS.
MBS: (with a very firm voice) No, one hand only.

This went on for around 30 minutes. I kid you not. 30 freaking minutes.

I then gave her two choices - give the book to Daddy with both hands or face the wall.
MBS was crying buckets at this point, but FINALLY chose to return the book to MH with both hands.
She was really, really reluctant to do so.

In the end, it's a good thing she got around to her senses and agreed to say sorry to both of us.

Baguio City 2017 - Day 2

DAY 2 To start off the day, the little monkey woke up early to run around the grounds of St. Patrick Village. He had just finished his oatmeal breakfast, which I was able to cook at the comfort of the house we rented.  This is the house we stayed in. Pathway leading to the exit A modern day Romeo and Juliet scene with the aunt Just as we were headed up to get ready for another exciting day, the little monkey's ears perked up when he heard a "Ta-hooooo!!!!" entering the village grounds. And boy, was I excited to find out that they offered another unique flavor - ube taho! What a way to start the day! :)  Kuya Willie arrived a few minutes past 9am, and off we went to Baguio Botanical Garden. *Baguio Van Rentals provided their drivers with their own lodging, so Kuya Willie didn't stay with us (even though there was more than enough room; they have a driver's quarters just beside the garage).  Family picture! The garden w...

Youji & Me Clearance Sale

While browsing Facebook, I chanced upon Youji & Me having a clearance sale ! :)  I love clearance or warehouse sales. They mean 50% off the original price, or sometimes even more. :) It's too bad the company didn't give a clearance sale before MBS was born. If they did, it would've saved us a lot of money.  The crib and playpen MBS uses now were both bought from Youji & Me by MBS's grandparents.  From what i've gathered, it's part of Chinese tradition that the mom-side grandparents of the baby have to buy the crib. It's also tradition not to assemble the crib before the baby arrives. In our case though, we had the crib assembled when it was delivered to our place. We didn't put on the sheets yet though. We waited for MBS to come out before doing that.  The initial plan was to put the crib at our place and the playpen at MBS's grandparents' place. However, both crib and playpen were put to use at our place. So, MH and I decided to bu...

Baguio City 2017 - Day 3

DAY 3 Here's a glimpse (with pictures) of what the inside of our rented house at St. Patrick looks like. The house can be rented for Php 18,000 a night. It was pricey for our small group, but would have been worth it for a bigger group.  Room# 1 at Lower Ground CR inside Room # 1 Stairs going to the main floor Living room (Main door is on the right) Dining room just across the living room Kitchen (Pots and pans, knives, chopping board, plates, utensils, rice cooker, water dispenser with 5 Gal water, water kettle are all provided.) Room # 2 at Main floor CR just outside Room # 2 Stairs leading to 2nd Floor Room# 3: Master's Bedroom (there's a CR inside) Room # 4 across the Master's Bedroom (CR located beside the room) Stairs going to Attic St. Patrick Village was nice enough to hold my downpayment for 1 year. We were supposed to go last year, but we had a family emergency.  I was really charmed by this place (...
