Conversations with MBS at 2

While MH was scratching a mosquito bite, MBS went over to him and said, "Daddy, bo be pe ." (Daddy, do not scratch.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When MBS comes home from school, she always goes to MH to say, "Daddy, I to lai lo! " (Daddy, I'm home!" We have an uncle visiting us, so we ask MBS to say that to him as well. One day, however, I forgot to instruct her to tell her great uncle that she's home. So after greeting her dad, she looks at me and goes, "Mommy, Di Ku Kong le ?" (Mommy, where is Di Ku Kong [what she calls her great uncle]?) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MBS sees me bring home Potato Corner and rushes to me. She has a wide smile on her face. She doesn't touch it though. Later on, she goes to me and asks, "Mommy, who is the fries for?" When I answer that its f...

Conversations with MBS at 2

It might be because I'm usually the disciplinarian or maybe because I say "NO" to most of her requests, but this conversation happened while I was in the room: MBS: Daddy, can I play with the pink one? (gesturing to the pink felt cloth I bought at a bazaar last month) MH: Go ask Mommy. (MBS looks at me, then back to her dad.) MBS: Daddy, I'll ask you nalang . At 2 years and 9 months, my daughter has learned the art of strategy. @_@

Parenting Challenges: The time MBS just didn't want to say sorry

Recently, MBS has gotten herself a habit of throwing things she doesn't like or she thinks to be ugly. Take one particular book for instance. She didn't like it; thus, she threw it on the floor. MH saw this and scolded her. MH: Pick up the book. We told you before that you should not throw things. Please pick it up. MBS: No. This took around 3 minutes or so. I went to MBS and asked her to please pick up the book, give the book to her dad, and say sorry. After much prodding, she followed step #1. She picked up the book. That was it. I asked her to please give the book to her dad and say sorry. She threw the book to her dad. Threw.the.book.My temper flared up. There was crying and shouting involved now. I told her to give the book to her dad with both hands. MBS did not like the idea. Me: Give the book to Daddy, using both hands. MBS gets the book and reluctantly gives it to MH with one hand. Me: Both hands. MBS looks at me and nods her head, still extending on...

What a Journey "1" has been...

A list of things that MBS can do Just a few days before she turns 2  A list of memories that I will cherish forever And an unconditional love that is beyond measure. MBS never fails to amaze me with what she can do at her age. There are tons of moments I forget that she's a little girl and just about to turn 2.  We can hold conversations with her already. And her being able to understand us and respond in complete sentences, at her age, is something I am really proud of. The best part is that MBS is able to help us with mini-chores around the house.  "Please put this in the hamper." and "Please throw this in the trash can." are regulars for her and she repeats these sentences to us at times. MBS walked in on me while I was inflating her floaters/beach ball for swimming. "Mommy, Haley naman." I gave her the inflator and left the room to get something. When I entered the room again, "Mommy, wait for (a) minute." ...

MBS on CAPS LOCK magic

MBS recently discovered that the Caps lock key lights up when pressed. And she decided to surprise her dad with her new-found knowledge. While my husband (MH) was sitting down with his laptop on the table in front of him. "Daddy, sit lap." MH carries MBS onto his lap. "Daddy, close eyes." Upon confirming that MH had his eyes closed, MBS presses the Caps Lock key on the laptop. "Daddy, ta-da! Magic!" is said with a huge grin on MBS's face while pointing to the lit up Caps Lock key. Cuteness overload! :)

MBS Travel: Amorita Resort, Bohol

Planning our family getaway for Christmas 2014, I googled the words "Family friendly resort Manila" and out came a list from Working Mom . I chose the one resort which I felt wouldn't be too much crowded during the holidays - Amorita Resort, Panglao, Bohol .  Incidentally, my batch mate was the head chef of the resort so I was able to confirm if Amorita was indeed as kid friendly as the article let out.  Result: My stay at the resort had not only made me more than happy with my decision, it also made me look forward to planning my next getaway there. Baby G :) MBS ready to go We reached Tagbilaran via Cebu Pacific on December 22, and was greeted with a guy holding a wooden Amorita sign. We were then offered umbrellas since it was drizzling, and a bottle of water for each one of us. The porter and the driver were both very polite and assisted us until we reached the van. Touchdown Tagbilaran We were greeted with welcome drinks, but was then infor...

Hide and Seek!

Yan.. Two.. Tee.. Your.. Yibe.. Ix.. Ben.. Eight.. Yine.. Ten! MBS opens her half-closed eyes and, guided by MH, looks for my hiding place.  She runs around the room, and there's a big question mark on her face as she wonders where I might be hiding. She checks under the sheets, which was my previous hiding place. She checks the crib, which was my hiding place earlier as well. I let out a fake sneeze, and MBS becomes alert.  "Mamee!" She walks over her favorite mat, not knowing that she was stepping on me.  "Ha-choo!" I let out a fake sneeze again. "Ma-mee?" She steps out of the mat and sees the bump.  Finally, she yanks the mat over her head and has a HUGE grin plastered on her face.  Our laughter fills the whole room and my heart is filled with happiness! :) Today, MBS played hide-and-seek with me and MH. And it is truly a night to remember. :) I love how MBS tries to communicate with us. And...
